True Fight Playbook: Reading Attack and Defense Patterns (Head, Body, Legs)

True Fight is a turn-based 1v1 mind game: each round you commit one attack zone and one defense zone—head (O), body (||), or legs (/)—before the reveal. Wins come from predicting the opponent’s pair, not from tapping faster. This Playbook shows how to read repeating habits, how to choose defense against the strike you expect, and how to aim your attack at the guard they keep leaving open. Use it after a clean opening script and before you spend a last-HP clutch.

How does zone reading work in True Fight?

True Fight resolves combat by comparing your attack zone to their defense zone and their attack zone to your defense zone. A hit lands when the attack targets a zone the defender did not guard. True Fight head hits deal −2 health and +2 XP; body and legs hits deal −1 health and +1 XP; a successful defense grants +1 XP. Pattern reading means tracking which of those three zones they choose for offense and for guard across rounds—then updating your next commit from that evidence.

True Fight is not a reaction game. Both players lock moves before the board reveals, so the only edge is memory and prediction. Two matching reveals (same attack twice, or the same soft guard twice) are enough to form a working hypothesis; three makes the hypothesis strong enough to bet a special on.

What attack habits should you watch for?

True Fight opponents often leak one of these offense tells:

PatternWhat you seeYour response
Head hunterRepeated O attacks for −2 finishesDefend head; chip their soft side while they over-commit up top
Body spamMostly || pressureDefend body; punish with head if their guard stays low
Legs baitFrequent /\ strikesDefend legs; expect them to switch to head when you adapt
AlternatorStrict O → || → /\ cyclesBreak the cycle one step ahead; do not mirror blindly
Panic finisherSudden head after two chipsOn low HP, prioritize head guard even if mid-fight was body/legs

True Fight players who won early with head often reuse head under stress. Players who fear −2 against themselves may over-guard head and leave body or legs open—that is an attack tell on their defense, covered next.

What defense habits should you watch for?

True Fight defense habits are as readable as attack habits. Track where their guard sat when your hits landed or bounced:

  • Head-locked guard — they almost always protect O. Attack body or legs for reliable −1 chips and +1 XP.
  • Low guard — they protect body or legs and eat head shots. Save head (−2) for when you need a swing or a finish.
  • Mirror guard — they defend the zone they just attacked. Attack a different zone than the one they are currently striking with.
  • Sticky guard — same defense two or more rounds in a row. True Fight rewards attacking the other two zones until they rotate.

Write one sentence after each reveal: “They attack X; they guard Y.” That sentence is your entire mid-fight plan.

How do you choose defense to match a predicted attack?

True Fight defense should answer the question: which of their attack zones is most likely and most lethal if I am wrong? Head (−2) is the highest-cost miss; body and legs (−1) are cheaper mistakes. When evidence points to head, guard head. When evidence points to body spam and they have never thrown head, guard body—but stay ready to flip if they show a finishing tell.

Priority order for True Fight defense reads:

  1. Lethal evidence — if they just threw head, or always finish with head, guard head.
  2. Frequency evidence — the zone they used most in the last two rounds.
  3. Matchup evidence — rematch knowledge from earlier duels with the same player.
  4. Default — only when you have zero data (see the opening script).

True Fight CounterAttack pairs well with a high-confidence defense read: a correct guard deals 1 damage back. Save CriticalHit for when the attack side of the read is strong, not when you are still guessing the incoming zone.

How do you aim attacks at a weak guard?

True Fight attack choice should target the zone they failed to protect, not the zone that “feels aggressive.” If they guarded head twice, body or legs is the productive line. If they never guard head, True Fight head (−2 / +2 XP) is the correct pressure—and the right setup for CriticalHit’s 33% double once the open O is confirmed.

Pairing rules:

  • Confirmed soft zone → attack it; consider CriticalHit if you need burst.
  • Opponent at 1–2 HP → prefer the zone that finishes (often head for −2); see last-HP clutch when you are the one at 1 HP.
  • You only need information → body/legs chip is enough; do not over-invest CriticalHit.
  • You trust your guard more than their open side → CounterAttack and play defense-first for a round.

True Fight numbers behind the table: 5 HP per duel; head −2 / +2 XP; body and legs −1 / +1 XP; CriticalHit 33% double on a landing hit; FuriousStrike +1 damage only at 1 HP; CounterAttack +1 on a correct defense.

Quick checklist: True Fight zone reading

  1. After every reveal, update “they attack X / they guard Y.”
  2. Defend lethal frequency first (especially head).
  3. Attack the zone their guard has been skipping.
  4. Bet CounterAttack on defense confidence; CriticalHit on attack confidence.
  5. Feed early reads from the opening script; spend late reads in the 1 HP clutch.
